One thing Wivenhoe Sailing Club takes pride in is its relaxed,
family atmosphere. Add to this a do-it-yourself approach
to maintenance and organisation, and the result is a friendly,
local, low-cost club with excellent facilities and a lively sailing
and social programme.
The Club was established in 1925 in a shed on Wivenhoe Quay
on the River Colne. Gradual growth, with two changes of head-quarters,
has culminated in a splendid new purpose-built building a little
further down river. Many members worked hard and made significant
financial contributions to achieve this superb result.
Membership now stands at over 300 and includes a flourishing
cadet section. In addition to many dinghy and cruiser races,
the programme includes a number of pottering days or weekends
with the purpose of involving families and young people in fun-without-fear
sailing activities. Our House & Wines committee works hard
to create a wide range of social events throughout winter and
summer. |
